The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking a Senior Laboratory Specialist to join our laboratory and participate in research on HIV transmission, pathogenesis, and treatment. The Senior Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for overseeing research projects and managing a complex stream of laboratory supplies crucial to progress on integrated projects. As such, the incumbent must exhibit strengths in the conduct and execution of scientific projects as well as managerial foresight.
The incumbent will be involved in the management of several funded studies focused on HIV infection and therapeutics and must work independently. Daily activities will involve coordinating research activities, enforcing laboratory safety guidelines and proper chemical/biohazard waste disposals, keeping track of supply inventories and equipment maintenance, as well as training and managing new undergraduate and graduate students on laboratory techniques.
Laboratory responsibilities will include but are not limited to performing cell-based virology experiments, including isolation of human blood mononuclear cells, production and replication assays of replication-competent WT and mutant HIV in cells, flow cytometry, luciferase assays, Western blots, ELISAs, and tissue staining. In addition, the incumbent must be proficient in murine studies, including xenotransplantation, serial blood sampling, administration of chemical and recombinant materials, and tissue harvesting.

Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related life sciences field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted.
