Position Summary

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is conducting a national search for a scientific program officer to support the Healthcare Delivery and Disparities Research (HDDR) program. The mission of the HDDR program is to develop, fund, and manage comparative effectiveness research studies of strategies (e.g., policies, interventions, service designs) employed by healthcare systems and organizations to improve the quality, and efficiency of care for the patients they serve. To this end, PCORI employs a variety of funding initiatives designed to address high priority research questions about how personnel, technology, program design, and incentives that drive effective and efficient health care solutions to real world problems facing patients, caregivers, clinicians, and other stakeholders. The ultimate purpose of this research is to improve health outcomes that matter to patients, their families, and society.  


Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent provides support, direction and leadership in planning, guiding, and encouraging a program of research in three major areas:

1. Oversight of research contracts. This includes application of methodological standards related to health system level observational and interventional studies (such as multi-component interventions or multi-level research design and analysis).

2. Portfolio analysis. Research initiatives included in the portfolio are designed to improve healthcare system solutions in the delivery of preventive, diagnostic, treatment, and post-treatment services. This area encompasses comparative effectiveness research studies.

3. Leading and/or participating in small teams or working groups to conceptualize research topics, perform or assess systematic reviews of evidence, strategic research portfolio management, and facilitate the prioritization of research questions by experts or advisory panels. Reviews may be summarized in reports, web pages, fact sheets, or manuscripts for publication.  


Specific projects will depend upon the background, experience and research interests of the incumbent.
