Conrad Prebys Professorship working on Viruses of Microbes at an Open Rank
The Department of Biology at SDSU is recruiting an individual to be the Conrad Prebys Chair in Biomedical Research as part of the Viral Information Institute (VII). The VII is an interdisciplinary research center at San Diego State University (SDSU) built upon the pioneering work in phage biology and virology of a diverse group of collaborative faculty. The institute aims to understand the impact of microbial viruses in human health and ecosystems at a multi-scale level, combining cutting-edge research in molecular and cellular biology, microbiology, ecology, evolution, environmental science, biophysics, mathematical modeling, and computer science. The position requires an active relationship with other members of the center, building an integrative and collaborative environment for teamwork across disciplines.
The successful candidate will be highly collaborative and interact with members of the Viral Information group, the Computational Science Research Center, and faculty in the College of Sciences. Mentoring students in our Ph.D. programs (including Biology, Computational Science, and Statistics) as well as our Masters programs (including Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Chemistry & Biochemistry) is expected, as is participation in the undergraduate and graduate teaching mission of SDSU.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or other related), relevant postdoctoral experience, demonstrated record of research accomplishments and funding, and will employ state-of-the-art approaches in the study of viruses. The candidate will also have a strong record in grant writing and extramural support, as well as a demonstrated capacity for collaborating, mentoring, and teaching.
