The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona is recruiting a doctoral scientist (Ph.D.) or physician (M.D.) to serve as Associate Director of the Histocompatibility (HLA) Laboratory. The state of the art HLA Laboratory supports growing clinical programs in solid organ transplantation (kidney, pancreas, heart, and lung) and hematopoietic stem cell/bone marrow transplantation as well as other disciplines requiring immunogenetics and histocompatibility testing. The HLA Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Arizona will be relocated next year to a new facility to accommodate the latest cutting edge molecular technologies in HLA typing and HLA antibody analysis. Of note, Mayo Clinic in Arizona has one of the largest and most successful transplant programs in the U.S.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work with the Director to provide oversight of the HLA Laboratory activities, new clinical test development and implementation, and quality improvement and accreditation processes. In addition to sharing coverage of clinical, administrative, and technical aspects of the HLA Laboratory, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of Mayo Clinic through participation in patient care, clinical/translational research, and teaching to institutional trainees. This position includes an academic appointment with the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine.

Licensure or Certification: The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
    Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science and/or a medical degree (M.D.) from an accredited institution Be certified (or eligible) by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) or equivalent board approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and/or be certified (or eligible) in clinical or combined anatomic/clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology Be credentialed (or eligible) by the American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) as an HLA Director in the following areas of accreditation:
                        Solid Organ Transplantation: Live Donor
                        Solid Organ Transplantation: Deceased Donor
                        Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation: Related Donor
                        Hematopoietic Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplantation: Unrelated Donor
                        Histocompatibility Testing for Other Clinical Purposes
    Have a publication track record in the field(s) of transplant immunology and/or immunogeneticsAt least 2 years of experience in solid organ and hematopoietic stem cell / bone marrow transplantation testing and clinical consultation is preferred but not requiredExperience in next generation sequencing (NGS) for HLA typing is preferred but not required
