Position Summary: The Development Technologist I position in the Clinical Mass Spec Development Laboratory will be responsible for the Design, Development, and Verification of mass spectrometry tests for the Clinical Mass Spec Lab and the Clinical Forensic and Toxicology laboratories. New test requests are reviewed by the Lab Disease-Oriented Groups with review and assignment by the Laboratory Oversight Team. Tests will be developed on a variety of mass spectrometry platforms including triple quads, Orbi-trap, TOF, and high-throughput LC systems.

Responsibilities: To develop, evaluate, and implement new tests, methodologies, or products for the laboratory under the intellectual and scientific guidance of laboratory directors and development coordinator. Assumes responsibility for improvement of existing methods or implementation of new technology of proven validity. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed. Helps in organizing new method validation data, preparation of data for publication and peer review, and participates in formal presentations. Aids in the investigation, installation, evaluation, and purchase of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, computer software and hardware, new reagent systems, and other specialty items. Participates in the training of laboratory staff, residents, and students in principles of methods and applications within the laboratory.
**A two-year commitment to this position is required**

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in clinical/medical laboratory science (CLS/MLS), medical technology (MT), chemistry, human biological science from an accredited institution, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in addition to a certificate in MLS. Two years relevant laboratory experience required. A HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. Other clinical laboratory specialty certificates will be reviewed and approved on a case by case basis.

Additional Qualifications: Self motivated, highly organized, efficient, and able to work independently exercising strong decision-making skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary. Capable of reproducing a reference method using available procedures without supervision. Demonstrated analytical and scientific competency with development and/or validation of lab techniques or procedures is required. Experience with data collection, organization, analysis and delivery of information.

Experience with a variety of mass spectrometry platforms including triple quads, Orbi-trap, TOF and high-throughput LC systems.

License or Certification: ASCP or other certification pertinent to the laboratory field may be required depending on the laboratory specialty and prevailing regulatory requirements.

Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,257.60, based on a full-time position.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Monday-Friday, Days. Depending on project assignment and instrument availability, some evening work is possible.
Weekend Schedule: Depending on project assignment and instrument availability, some weekend work is possible.
