Position Summary: The Enteric NeuroScience Program at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN seeks a post-doctoral fellow to join our highly collaborative and translational research team focusing on understanding the basic mechanisms that lead to human gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) and developing new therapies aimed at reversing the disease. The lab participates in the NIH Gastroparesis Clinical Research Consortium (GpCRC) which prospectively collects tissue and other biological material, clinical data and physiological parameters on gastroparesis patients across clinical sites nationwide. We use a combination of techniques in omics, molecular and cellular biology and imaging to determine cellular and molecular defects in enteric neuromuscular apparatus in these patients. We highly prefer a candidate with a PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, or immunology and a strong interest in working in a team-based laboratory to understand changes and mechanisms in human samples, although, will consider a MD, or equivalent doctoral degree. The technical requirements for this position are firsthand experience with some or all of tissue processing, imaging, molecular biology, microscopy, cell culture, omics and flow cytometry. Prior experience with systems biology approaches will be strongly preferred. Responsibilities: A Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic is a temporary position intended to provide training and education in research. Individuals will train in the research program of a Mayo Clinic principal investigator. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D.,(PhD in neuroscience, molecular biology, or immunology highly desired) or M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. Research Fellow is appropriate for individuals who have completed no more than one prior postdoctoral fellowship, at Mayo Clinic or elsewhere.
