The Director of Research - Biostatistics will plan, direct, evaluate and manage the Research Biostatistics department in the Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE).  As Lead Statistician, this person will supervise a team of biostatisticians and provide expert leadership to design, implement and analyze clinical, translational and outcomes research studies in collaboration with Physician and Scientist Investigators across CHS.  The Director of Research - Biostatistics will provide biostatistics expertise for grant submissions and will develop, promote and deliver biostatistics education to medical residents, faculty and CORE team members.  The Director will be an essential member of the CORE leadership team, a member of the CHS faculty and a research leader across the organization.

Essential Functions
    Supervises Masters and/or Ph.D. Degree-prepared BiostatisticiansResponsible for providing leadership for statistical analysis to support physician faculty, clinicians, basic scientists, and residents in conducting researchContributes experimental design and biostatistics expertise to grant application processConsults on  experimental design and statistical methods, including large-scale data analyses and model developmentWrites detailed statistical methods and analysis results for technical reports, grant applications and publicationsMentors and develops associate, intermediate and senior statisticiansCollaborates with other members of CORE on a project-by-project, as-needed basisAssists in education of medical residents
    Designs databases, performs statistical programming, and develops statistical modelsCreates optimal environment for professional development for staff; encourages and supports the same 
Physical Requirements
Works in a fast paced research and administrative environment. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, lift, speak, hear, and use telephone. Is responsible for working in a safe manner.

Education, Experience and Certifications
    PhD or MD or both from an accredited institution required. A distinguished record of publications required.Management experience requiredPublished work in recognized journals required, publications on statistical methods would be a plusMinimum of 5 years of experience in researchMinimum of 8 years professional experience, preferably in medical fieldThorough knowledge of SAS and experience with database development are requiredExperience with R and computer programming is a plusExtensive technical writing experience is required
