The Accountant I will be responsible for the financial administration of sponsored projects in accordance with sponsor guidelines and institutional policy; preparing financial analysis and reports for internal and external reporting purposes. The individual will perform duties of moderate complexity, judgement, and scope which include analyzing accounts and reports, preparing journal entries, submitting invoices, review of assigned sponsored programs, and general inquiry solutions.

Essential Functions 
    Provide post-award administration of moderate complexity, judgment and scope of sponsored projectsCoordinate the pre- to post-award transition by reviewing awards for compliance/administrative/financial requirements and oversee establishment and generation of new or amended awards in the sponsored programs management systemPre-audit procurement requests and forms in financial procurement systems in accordance to the award budget/ allocability, adhering to regulation and compliance, and coded appropriatelyPrepare and monitor effort reporting processes to ensure accurate and timely postingReview and reconcile financial transactions for accuracy and compliance for sponsor billingReview, monitor and assist with sponsor billing collectionsAssist with cost transfer request to/from projects in accordance with CHS policies and proceduresPrepare and present internal financial report package including CHS operational variance reporting, project analysis, effort reporting targets and receivable analysis to Domain Leaders, Principal Investigators (PIs), Program Directors (PDs) and/or their teamsAssist with preparation of metric reports that include, but are not limited to Post-award related processesCollaborate with PIs/PDs as well as central and departmental sponsored program administrators to coordinate post-award management of sponsored projects including assisting with preparation and submission of progress reports, other required financial reports/requests, sub recipient monitoring, and closeout requirements Performs account analyses and reconciles selected expense and revenue accounts.Reviews and analyses lease contracts, land purchase agreements, and tracks lease terms and conditions.Prepares assigned recurring and non-recurring journal entries for the month-end closing process.Answers questions from investors concerning variances on performance reports or directs questions to the appropriate individual(s).Performs analytical reviews, research, and other related duties independently.Establishes and maintains billing and aging of accounts receivable process.Maintains filing system for lease documents, financials, and tax correspondence.
Physical Requirements
Work requires lifting and moving notebooks and reports weighing up to ten pounds. Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Majority of the day is spent sitting.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance required. Previous work experience preferred.
