PeaceHealth is seeking a Lab Assistant Technical - Craig, AK (Per Diem) for a per diem, Day shift position.Req ID: 140811 JOB SUMMARYPerforms laboratory testing and support services across multiple disciplines of the laboratory including but not limited to chemistry, hematology and transfusion services.  Performs moderate to high complexity laboratory procedures, as defined by CLIA, according to standard operating procedures. This testing requires the limited exercise of independent judgment and interpretation and is performed under the supervision of a medical laboratory technician, medical technologist, technical specialist, or department Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the directions of a qualified medical technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician, the technician may perform a variety of the following job functions:Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing as necessary.Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens for analysis.Performs high or moderately complex analytical tests or procedures as assigned. Recognizes abnormal results and follows up as defined in standard operating procedures.Operates point of care and laboratory instruments as assigned. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and notifies appropriate technical personnel.Performs routine quality control and maintains accurate records. Recognizes out-of-control results and notifies technical personnel.Recognizes factors that affect measurements and results and takes appropriate action according to predetermined protocols.Communicates information such as test results, normal range, and specimen requirements to authorized sources.Demonstrates laboratory technical skills to new caregivers and students.Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION:     
    High school diploma or equivalent required.Associates or Bachelor of Science degree preferred.May require up to an Associates of Science degree for positions with high Complexity testing requirements.
 EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:              
    Clinical Laboratory experience preferred.
 LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
    Valid driver's license for driving positions.
 OTHER SKILLS:  
    Working knowledge of specimen collection, preparation, and test requirements and factors affecting test interpretation in responding to inquiries.Good written and verbal communication skills.Working knowledge of computer systems such as Microsoft Windows, and Microsoft Office programs.Mathematical ability to calculate fractions, percentages, ratios, proportion measurements and apply practical algebra.General understanding of laboratory equipment to calibrate and do minor repairs.
 ALASKA PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
    Work requires fairly light physical exertion 34 to 65% of the time. Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.        Work requires frequent exposure to conditions involving minor cold, heat, poor ventilation or sharp instruments such as syringes or lancets.  Reasonably anticipated that this position will be exposed to blood and body fluids an average of once a month or more.  Requires the use of a Powered Air Purifying System (PAPR).  Requires the use of an N-95 mask.   Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).
