Obtains and processes laboratory specimens and performs laboratory tests and procedures.

Essential Functions
    Completes patient reporting according to department and QC requirements. Demonstrates working knowledge of the computer, testing procedures and policies. Prepares reagents and maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures in the department. Manages waste of supplies and reagents to lower departmental expense.Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priority of procedures and demonstrates the ability to recognize and correct situations that compromise the accuracy of test procedures.Adheres to quality control, infection control and quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area. Documents corrective action to QC outliers.Reports results in a timely manner. Notifies the immediate provider of all critical results and documents their name, time, and read-back verification in the computer system.
Physical Requirements
Works in a fast-paced time sensitive clinical environment. Ability to coordinate eyes and hand to finger rapidly and accurately in making precise movement with speed. Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instruments, chemicals, and/or body fluids. Requires standing, walking, stretching, bending, stooping, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds waist high. Must be mobile within the entire work area. Intact senses of sight, hearing, smell and touch.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Associates Degree in Science with concentration in Medical Laboratory Technology required. MLT (ASCP), MLT (ASMT) or MLT (AMT) or registry-eligible required within 1 year of employment.
