Position Summary: Executes experimental studies in support of lab goals and grant commitments. The lab studies complex interactions between gut bacteria and dietary carbohydrates and their influence on host physiological function, such as gastrointestinal motility in health and disease. Duties will also include cell culture techniques, including organoid cultures, physiological measurements, immunohistochemical staining, PCR and molecular biology techniques and working with small rodents. Perform basic statistical analysis; prepare tables/charts/graphs and assist in organizing data. Will make presentations and contribute to the writing of manuscripts ad presentation of data at meetings. Trains and assists residents/fellows/temporary lab personnel. Maintains lab equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities: Independently sets up and performs experiments and procedures in support of lab goals and grant commitments (e.g. assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, etc.). Contributes to the planning, design and modification of studies and experiments in the research lab setting. Monitors results, reports unusual outcomes and suggests modifications. Collects, enters, summarizes, and analyzes data. May oversee and assist with the training of residents, fellows and temporary lab personnel in lab techniques. Works with minimal supervision and performs assignments independently as discussed and approved by Principal Investigator. (011382)

Qualifications: Requires bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science with 4 years of research laboratory experience.

Additional Qualifications: Master's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science preferred.

Exemption Status: Exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $2,005.60, based on a full-time position.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Typically works during the weekdays with occasional weekend work as required.
Weekend Schedule: As needed
