Position Summary: This position is only available to Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Program Students that graduate in the Fall of 2017.

Responsibilities: This posting is to hire either a Histotechnologist or a Histology Technician.

Histotechnologist: Prepares specimens and performs testing procedures on pathology specimens that results in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and/or prognostic analysis by the pathology. Applies technical theory to provide overall operations support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities. Able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments. Assists with training of students and employees.

Histology Technician: Performs a variety of technical procedures that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations. These technical procedures may include: accessioning specimens; specimen processing and microtomy techniques; paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Technical staining procedures include: routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical staining, and in situ hybridization. Participates in on-call rotations, including weekends as needed. Assists with training of students and new employees.

**A two-year commitment to this position is required**.

Qualifications: **This position is only available to MSHS Histology Program Students that graduate in Fall of 2017**

Associates degree required with coursework including 24 semester hours of the following: at least 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology; AND 6 credit hours in chemistry; AND 6 credit hours in biology.

Additional Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and HTL certified through the ASCP Board of Registry.

Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred.

Graduates of the Mayo School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program will receive preference.


License or Certification: Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). Board of Certification required at start date. Employees obtaining certification(s) after January 1, 2004 will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.

Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $21.34 per hour.
Hours/Pay Period: 80
Schedule Details: Overnight shift
Weekend Schedule: Occasional weekend rotation
